Next week we kick off the 2019 summer backpack season! We start with a new/old camp “Adventure Trekker’s.” Because of our long wait lists for all Adventure Camps (middle schoolers) we added 2 weeks of backpacking modified for 7th and 8th graders. It’s similar to the “Wilderness Weeks” program we did many years ago.
Adventure Trekker’s will combine some time at Sonlight based in the backpack building, and some time in the wilderness, camping out and doing day hikes from a basecamp. Programming is being designed by our Backpack Coordinator Becca, and guides are looking forward to this new adventure! One Adventure Trekker’s week is full with a wait list, there are a few spaces in the other week.
Our backpack schedule includes the high school backpack trip, as well as backpack trips for youth groups. We’re grateful for a later start to the season because of a high snow year, the high country still has a lot of snow and some of the creek crossings are challenging because of high water. Wildflower season will be later than usual but it should be amazing with the moisture we had this winter!
