What is Type 2 fun?

If you’ve ever been on a really hard hike with beautiful views then chances are you have experienced Type 2 fun. You might be wondering, isn’t fun exactly what you think it is? But here at Sonlight, we understand fun in all forms.

What are the types of fun? Type 1 fun is the most common and is the majority of fun we have here at Sonlight. It’s just plain fun! Going down the slip and slide, dressing up for banquet night, playing capture the small mouth bass, and more. We aim for the majority of camper’s weeks to be Type 1 fun.

Type 2 is a more challenging form of fun. Type 2 is when something may not be fun in the moment, but you will look back on the moment and realize it actually was enjoyable and you might even try it again! Here at camp that looks like tough sections on hikes, energizers if you’re tired, or maybe getting goo-ed in the goo square during messy games. Type 2 fun is very common on our backpack trips when the trip may become challenging. We love Type 2 fun because it normally means you are being challenged in a healthy way. You may have tried something new that was difficult, but Type 2 fun means the challenge paid off!

Type 3 fun is not fun. It is when you walk away from the situation and think “I’m never doing that again”. We try to avoid Type 3 fun.

As we enter into a new year, we encourage you to stretch your comfort zone and have some Type 2 fun. Try something new this year!
