Drought in Southwest Colorado is upon us, and with that comes wildfire season. The San Juan National Forest has released a statement that they will enact Stage 3 Fire Restrictions effective Tuesday June 12. This does impact Sonlight Camp, as we will not be able to do day hikes. The Pagosa National Forest district went out of their way and pulled permits for us in a district out of the San Juan National forest, so we can do all our backpack trips. All activities at the resident camp will continue with some modification. No open fires are allowed, but we’re enjoying some blinking lights for campfire each night and our s’mores will be cooked in the ovens.

Winds shifted last night, and we’ve had a slight haze of smoke from the 416 and Burro fires 60 miles to the west of us. The photo is from this morning, The Sonlight leadership team is monitoring the wildfire situation to include how smoky the air is. We are prepared to modify outdoor activities should smoke become an issue. Pray for rain!
