Gap Year
The Barnabas Journey 2018-2019
Summer Prep
As we wrap up winter, we finish up the Barnabas Journey this week. Our first GapYear was great, and we’re looking forward to the Barnabas Journey GapYear program #2 to start this fall.
And now we begin preparing for summer and the lists come out! We plan for every detail to be completed before our first camper arrives. In addition to the program work, lots of facility preparation, upgrading / adding new things / repairs and routine maintenance. We look forward to Mike Coltrin coming next week to set all the geocaches out. The following week our friends from Covenant Presbyterian in Wichita, Kansas arrive for their annual work trip. They’ve come each May for 20 years, and they do a tremendous amount of building / cleaning and maintenance for Sonlight.
A big thanks to Malcolm Rodgers from Pagosa Springs, he built 5 new adirondack chairs for Sonlight. Covenant Presbyterian donated funds, and Malcolm did the woodwork. They’re beautiful.
A few bigger projects we’re working on before our work group comes: replacing some of the kitchen/dishroom flooring, modifications to the water system in anticipation of drought, and to comply with state regulations and trail maintenance.
Camps are FULL, if you don’t have a spot, there are just a few camps with spaces. If you’re not registered give Sara a call to be put on a wait list, some of the wait lists are short.
We’re still hiring for a few staff positions, so check our our staff page!
We love our Sonlight community – the staff, campers and camp families. We look forward to seeing 2018 campers soon!
