Camp is a place different from home in so many good ways. In our 37th year here at Sonlight I’m not sure I can define why camp is so great, but I think it’s in hundreds of little details that add up to a place unique from any other. We play hard. We explore nature. There is intentional space for conversation in our daily programming. We allow kids to be who they were created to be. We openly talk about our faith, our questions and our dreams.
Camp is hard too. Living in community we don’t always get to do things our way. There is a point when each of us realize that it’s not all about us. We give up things we want for the good of the community. And in the end, we take away life skills that are invaluable. Resiliency or grit is developed when things are hard, or don’t quite go our way. Compassion is exercised when listening to the stories of others. And our souls are renewed daily by the laughter and love around us.
Thanks for taking the time to read about Sonlight, and to share in a little of the magic that we get to live every day.
