“The reason we choose to donate to Sonlight is that we love the magic of Sonlight. Here’s what happens when we donate to Sonlight: the dollars morph into all sorts of things. Tangible and intangible, mundane, and magnificent. Those dollars become hammock villages, dance parties, dish soap, wacky hats, music, mischief, nonsense, chocolate chip cookies, lightbulbs, bandaids, giggles, stick horses, memories, lifelong friendships, and a million other magical transformations.”

Why Give?

It takes resources to be an impactful ministry that endures. Your support helps Sonlight be generous, impactful and resilient. It allow us to keep mission at the center of our decisions.

Our community includes some very faithful donors who support Sonlight in a variety of ways. Why do they give? We appreciate what they shared with us!

Donated funds are directed in 3 ways:

  • Scholarships which provide for those who made need some financial assistance to attend camp.
  • Program Excellence funds are directed to be used to strengthen the program we provide. New recreations equipment, training for staff and maintenance upgrades.
  • The Sonlight Endowment will provide a revenue stream in perpetuity. A percent of the fund may be drawn each year, and used at the discretion of the Sonlight Board.

I have seen first hand the tremendous impact that Sonlight makes on campers over the course of 30 years. I am fortunate to be able to respond when I learn how a strategic donation can be impactful for Sonlight’s
ministry.

In addition, from time to time I learn of a special circumstance of a child who especially needs the loving support that camp can provide. With no questions asked, I am blessed to be able to provide the tuition for a week that can change a life.

As a volunteer, I must have spent more than 30 weeks at Sonlight. Over the years, I got to know and serve hundreds of campers. It was a joy to see many of “the regulars” year after year, and to watch them grow up. (And to see many of them returning as summer staff a few years later.)

I have first hand seen the impact that Sonlight makes on so many students and the impact that it’s made on me. Sonlight is a home to so many people that it’s impacted over the 40+ years and I want to see it still around when my kids are old enough to go!

I think that Sonlight has just provided a home away from home. Mary and Winston have become like family to me and have always welcomed us with open arms whenever we want to swing by. I know that Sonlight still has so many lives to impact over the next 40 years and I can’t wait to watch that happen!

Sonlight represents a special place in my heart first and foremost because of how I experience the presence of Christ each and every time I’m there. It’s a privilege to give of our resources to Sonlight and trust in the Lord to continue to move in students’ lives as they attend camp!

I first came to Sonlight nearly 20 years ago, and while I’ll forever relish the warm chocolate chip cookies, wisdom from Winston & Mary, and the spectacular scenery, no memory or description of Sonlight would be complete without the acknowledgement of God’s presence in every square inch of the camp. Every time I attended a ski trip, backpacking trip, or even just visited, I knew I was entering into a time of worship, fellowship, and spiritual rejuvenation. I think of Sonlight with fondness and gratitude as it was a foundational experience for my faith, a source of lifelong relationships rooted in the Lord, and a testament to the blessing it is to give to an organization that faithfully stewards the Lord’s provision.
