Sonlight Camp Schedule Changes: COVID-19

From the Sonlight Leadership Team

After careful thought and consideration, Sonlight has determined it is necessary to reschedule the June session of Adventure Camp.  This camp was originally scheduled for June 7-13th and we feel that we do not have enough information to be confident that we will be able to open Sonlight safely by this time.  The new dates for this camp are July 12-18, 2020.  Families of all campers registered for this session should have received an email on Monday, April 20th with further details.

This is a decision that was not taken lightly.  While we are looking at the contingencies of rescheduling GrandCamp, and Discovery June-session if necessary, we do not have enough information to make those decisions at this time.  We hope to be able to be able to solidify our summer calendar by May 1st.

The Sonlight staff has been in connection with our state Department of Health and Colorado Division of Childcare. The CDC is currently drafting guidance for both day and resident camps, and the American Camp Association and Association of Camp Nursing’s joint panel of experts is prepared to help operationalize the guidelines. There even appears to be a growing sense that, perhaps, camps may be able to help provide many of the answers we all seek —  both as partners in public health (by creating safe environments) and economic recovery (by helping parents go back to work). We are heartened by the CDC’s advice that camp professionals not make major decisions until the CDC issues their guidance.

If you have any concerns or questions please give us a call! You can reach Sara Tyler, Ari Baca and Bryce Baca in the Sonlight office. Emrys is around also, though he’s more often out around camp getting projects done! 970.264.4379. (Landline, not text friendly) We appreciate conversation and would love to hear from you!
