Porcupine in the soccer net

Circa 1990

One Fall day, as I was walking about the camp, I noticed the soccer net moving. That’s odd as there is no wind blowing. So, as I got closer to the net, I discovered the reason. There was a large porcupine caught in the net and trying to free itself. Poor guy. So, with Mary’s help, we got gloves and tried to get the guy untangled. He was really caught and wrapped up in all the netting. Untangling is not going to happen. The next idea was to get some big scissors and cut the net to free him. As I pulled the netting apart, Mary would cut the cords as close as she dare get to his tail. That’s where the danger is. After about an hour, we finally had most of the soccer net cut free but not all. He wandered off into the woods a free guy with an orange necklace and body wrap.

We never saw him again.
