Snow

At once it reflects and absorbs

Transmitting the brilliance of sunshine

While keeping to itself every whisper of the wild.

It embraces the world with a thick blanket of innocence,

And the world succumbs

As if struck silent by the contemplation

Of its own beauty.

And I, a creature caught adrift,

Stand still

Only my breath melting away

Captive to the bright soft vision

Quietly offered to me.

It’s one of the many reasons I came to Sonlight. Here on the edge of the wilderness, when winter slows down the pace of life, beauty shines all around. And a quiet that invites contemplation: of whom I am, of who God is, of who we are. From the decks, in the dining room, or out on snowshoes, the gift of a life embraced by Jesus Christ smiles in the snow.

I hope you get a chance to enjoy that gift, too.
