Until you meet them in person, meet Emrys and Sara, Incoming Directors for Sonlight! On staff two different summers, they are familiar faces at Sonlight, and as our registrar for the past 5 years Sara is well acquainted with camp families and much of the business end of camp. Their children Gwendoyn and Micah think camp sounds like grand place to live, and look forward to new friends and a new school. The Tylers arrive at Sonlight this week, and will officially start their positions in September.
Emrys Tyler
Incoming Director
Raised in Pennsylvania, Emrys grew roots in Moravian soil and was nurtured by two awesome parents who both served in the medical field. He struck off early for foreign realms, eventually pursuing studies in four different countries. In 1997 the Lord called him back home, and in 2001 joined him to Sara for the Great Adventure. Together they have two children, Gwendolyn and Micah, who vibrate with creativity, joy, and sheer force of will. Emrys hopes they will grow every day in faith, love, and the knowledge of at least two foreign languages. Emrys continues to learn at the feet of Jesus, who seems especially fond of teaching hard lessons through Emrys’ offspring. He (Emrys) cultivates a vision for the next generation of Christians, who will stay grounded in the Spirit amidst an ever-changing world. He has served the last nine and a half years among the wonderful Saints of Nineveh, New York, as their pastor.
Emrys thrills at the prospect of serving at Sonlight. He anticipates the joy of seeing God work when the swirling tumultuous world meets the spacious rest of camp. He sees no better place to be than “with kids”–and young adults, and maybe new parents, and the struggling, and all those “blessed ones”–and “showing them God.” (Of course, ever-flowing streams of hot chocolate and cookies undoubtedly contribute to one’s spiritual journey.) He entertains no illusions that he can show God because he knows God better than anyone else. Instead, he hopes Sonlight will continue to be a place where we learn together that God knows us in Jesus Christ. Once we rest in that knowledge, we can hear the voice of the Spirit. He hopes that Sonlight will be for others–as it is for him–a still, cool oasis on the Great Adventure of discipleship.
Sara Tyler
Incoming Director
Sara graduated from Keene State College, Keene NH in 2000 with a BA in Math and a AS in Computer Science
She has worked driving Hummers for Mountain Dew, was a College Residence Hall Director in CO, Assistant Property Manager for Shopping Centers in Los Angeles, the Remote Registrar for Sonlight in NY, has mad skills as a candle maker, Norwex Independent Sales Consultant, and most of all wife and mom. And sometimes 2 or 3 of these at the same time.
Sara and Emrys traveled the world after Seminary, experiencing faith communities all over the globe.
Sara brings organization and communication skills, to Sonlight, and a mean gluten free peanut butter chocolate chip cookie recipe 😉
With 5 years of being the Sonlight registrar, she looks forward to start putting faces to the many names from registrations.

While I know it is our merciful God who is my healer, the space created for God to meet us in the sanctuary that is Sonlight is so unique and precious. I look forward to building relationships with staff, campers and families in the coming years. As we welcome them into this space where faith is strong, hope flows, love reigns and cookies abound, I look forward to seeing how God will meet them here.”
