Summer #47: Building Community & Strengthening Character

“I’ve never had a better camp. And I’ve also seen how much fun the outdoors is”

The unfiltered stories we hear reminds us of the good work that happens at camp. The kids this week have been full of enthusiasm and joy as they discover new things and make new friends. Dance parties in the cabins, games in the meadow and campfires every night. Dino nuggets and mac & cheese were a huge hit, and kids have said some big ‘thank-you’s” for all the meals. The life long friendships they are building, the life skills they are developing by living in community, working together to collaborate on activities is rewarding to see.

The backpack trip this week was a journey that built resilience. The Four Mile trail isn’t easy, but views from the upper lake are worth every steep step. Rain and lightening viewed from tents can be a bit unsettling, but learning safety precautions, playing cards in the tent builds friendships and resilience. Spirits were high when the group came off the trail and it’s a reminder of how important the work of camp is.

As we look towards the end of summer #47 the leadership team is grateful for the opportunities to provide space for kids to grow into who God created them to be. Intentional programming to develop character and provide space for laughter and friendship.
