Two Week
High School Summer Internship
A two-week experience for high school students to learn more about themselves and learn about the many different aspects of working at Sonlight Christian Camp. In the first week, interns will work alongside program support in making all the “magic” happen behind the scenes. In the second week, interns will work alongside the counseling and program staff to learn what it takes to be a Sonlight Camp counselor.
What are the dates?
Session 1: June 7- June 20, 2020
Session 2: July 26- August 8, 2020
Who can apply?
Any high school students entering 10th, 11th, 12th or recent graduates that are at least 16 years of age are encouraged to apply!
How many interns will be offered positions?
The number of internships offered will be contingent on the number of applications and qualified candidates that we receive. Our goal is quality over quantity, and we want this to be a strong learning—leadership opportunity for all involved.
At most, we can have 4 interns per session.
When will I know if I get the internship?
The application will close March 1st, and we will let you know before March 15.
What does the application process look like?
Similar to our summer staff applications you will fill out an online application available through our website. Once you have applied and if you are selected to continue, Bryce will be contacting you to set up a phone interview.
What does a session look like?
Interns will arrive at Sonlight on Sunday afternoon where they will join our staff meeting before the arrival of our new camp. For the first week, they will be introduced to the role of program support. They will learn the “behind the scenes” of camp; washing dishes, prepping program activities, etc. More importantly, however, they will learn “why” all these things are important. The fun and games is only possible because of a lot of really hard work going on “behind the curtain”. In the second week, interns will work alongside the counselors shadowing and learning what it takes to be an excellent caregiver and counselor. They will live in a cabin with two other counselors and their group of kids where they will participate and lead in all of the camp activities. This second week they will focus on learning what it means to “Be with kids and show them God”.
If you have more questions, please don’t hesitate to ask Bryce for more details.
Is this the same as being a CIT or LIT (Counselor/ Leader In Training)?
Yes and no. We have taken what was great about both of those programs and combined them into this new internship. We hope that this new internship offers more comprehensive training and leadership development than our previous CIT and LIT programs. By spending two weeks at camp, interns will have the opportunity to work in many different areas at camp and see how they all work together. We hope that interns will be able to walk away with real world experience that will develop them into leaders in their communities and the rest of the world.
