Campfires at Sonlight. We sing, we laugh and Katie and Mary eat a lot of s’mores. We feel community.
By singing together we build community. According to a study published in the journal Frontiers of Neuroscience, when people sing together, their heart rates tend to synchronize and beat as one. A team of Swedish researchers led by Björn Vickhoff discovered that this synchronicity can produce a sense of calm that is similar to the effects of yoga.
Makes sense to those of us who sing together at campfire. The feeling of peace, the beauty of the stars, and the support of those around us is impactful. Come on summer!
