The Sonlight backpack season is in full swing. TJ, Mary and a small but hardy group of high schoolers started the season with the “12Days on the Divide” backpack trip. Due to wildfire, we got re-routed to the South San Juans, an area we usually can’t get permits for. It was spectacular. We crossed the South San Juan Wilderness on the Continental Divide, travelling over 50 miles between 10,000-13,000 feet above sea level. Lots of alpine tundra, high mountain lakes, elk, Summit Peak (a 13er)- it was a grand journey.
Nick is out this week with a group of high school guys from First Presbyterian Church, Amarillo, TX. They are also in the South San Juans, crossing the wilderness east to west.
