Smoke on Monday morning at the base of Wolf Creek Pass
June 18th 8:00 AM: The West Fork wildfire continues to burn in to the wilderness to the north (away from camp). The Windy Pass fire is burning towards Wolf Creek ski Area, crews are working on structure protection at the ski area.
“Firefighters continued to work on keeping the (West Fork) fire from spreading to the south. This is quite challenging because of the amount of heavy dead and down timber. Firefighters continue to employ helicopters to cool the south flank of the fire and to catch spot fires.” (From Archuleta County Emergency Management)
Trail closures in the Wilderness will impact the Sonlight Backpack program, our backpack season opens next week. As soon as the Forest Service lets us know what our options are for using different trails, we will let all our backpackers, and backpack groups know what changes there will be for each trip.
