Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean

Backpack Season

Miles of trails, peaks to climb and vistas to enjoy. Our backpack program stays strong! Summer 2018 we’re guiding groups from First United Methodist Church – Lubbock, Fuller Seminary, Oklahoma Methodist Camps, the Amarillo Children’s Home, two trips for First Presbyterian Church, Amarillo and two Sonlight high school backpack trips. One Sonlight trip still has space, so don’t miss out!

In 39 years the wilderness has changed, yet it stays the same. In the Weminuche and South San Juans the spruce trees are dying because of a beetle infestation, but as the dead trees fall the forest is looking greener every year. It’s a big impact to wilderness travelers, having to climb over trees fallen over the trail, some of our traditional campsites are unusable because of the potential for falling trees. Yet lakes are the same, peaks don’t change and the the experience of being in wilderness is always life changing. Noah and Greta, our 2018 guides are having a great season, and our backpack coordinator Becca is handling all the details with finesse. We’re glad the San Juan National Forest opened back up and we’re optimistic for the summer rains to start soon.
