1979: My love for the mountains and desire to share them with kids inspired me to start Sonlight Adventures Inc. A backpack program designed completely for youth. The early trips were in the Gore Wilderness of Colorado, In 1981 we started guiding trips in the Weminuche Wilderness, in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado, which led to building Sonlight Camp – originally a base for the backpack program.
Now 36 years later, we’ve guided hundreds and hundreds of kids up peaks, through valleys, up and down trails all over these mountains. It’s been a great journey, and a privilege to do what I love.
Today it’s January. My big challenge this winter is to fill the 8 backpacking trips Sonlight has scheduled for summer 2015. We are open to youth groups from Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and church youth groups. Get your non profit organization together and come to Colorado for a week long backpacking adventure in the Weminunche Wilderness.
